Why Do Companies Still Use Catalogs?
Do you ever get free catalogs in the mail? Have you ever wondered why certain companies still send out product catalogs? I mean why would you need a catalog, the internet is the biggest product catalog in the world. You have information on any product you could possibly be interested right there in front of you on your computer. Anything you want from bird cages to water skis can be found read about and ordered directly from your home computer. So, if the internet makes ordering products so easy, why do companies still produce catalogs?
There are many reasons why companies may still send out catalogs. For instance, the internet is great if you have an idea of what you are looking for, but what if you don't. A paper back catalog provides a large number, if not all, of the products that a company produces or sells. This can be similar to windows shopping, only from home.
Many times customers are more likely to make future purchases from said company when they receive a monthly, or quarterly reminder. What do I mean by a reminder? How many times have you made a purchase from a less well known company online? I know I have, that company provided a product I was interested in at the time. I may never revisit that companies website, heck, I probably won't even remember the web address or company name for that matter. I would, however be more likely to make future purchases if I was reminded. Most companies that send out product catalogs do so on a monthly or quarterly basis. If I received a catalog every few months I might see something that I like and make a future purchase.
The internet has been around for awhile now but there are still many people out there that choose not to , or don't know how to use it. Many older people may not use the internet and still make great use of product catalogs. What if you use the internet but don't feel comfortable make purchases online. Maybe you don't like giving out your personal information online. If that is the case, then catalogs may be a good choice for you.
All the reasons listed above are the reason why many companies still use paper back product catalogs to promote their products.
