How to Install a Wall Mirror Using Mirror Mastic
There are several adhesives that can be used in hanging a mirror on the wall. Also often referred to as mirror mastics, these adhesives have several advantages that favor their use in wall mirror installation. For starters, they are quite easy to use and require no specialized skill set. There are different types of mastics that are used for bonding purposes. There are several heavy duty types used in the building business especially when tiles are to be attached to floors. Mirror mastics however are specifically designed for use with mirrors and oftentimes can be used on almost every surface. Another advantage of this technique is that the adhesive causes no damage to the mirror coating and is also resistant to cracking. Thus this ensures that the wall mirror is firmly held in place.
There are a number of places where mirror mastics can be purchased from and they include: local hardware stores, general stores, construction equipment stores and mirror stores. There are several brands of mirror mastics and a good example is Gunther Pro Mirror mastic. The instructions for application are always stated on the packaging and should be adhered to (pun intended).
Generally, there are basic procedures that should be followed when using mirror mastics. The first thing that should be determined is the size of the wall mirror. This will help in determining accurately the amount of mastic that would be required. Next, the surface on which the wall mirror would be hung should be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry before application. This applies to all surfaces: wood, brick and others.
Usually the ideal temperature for application is usually stated in the instruction manual. Application should be done on the back of the mirror and also on the wall surface. This should be done in sections after which the wall mirror is affixed. Plastics holders can be used to support the mirror until bonding sets.
